The test suites leverage extensive test automation including traffic generation, sophisticated motion emulation and controlled RF test environments to enable accurate and repeatable data and voice performance testing of cellular/Wi-Fi handsets over a broad range of user environments. The tests also leverage the Test Engine methodology used for certification testing of handsets by the Wi-Fi Alliance.
The FMC Performance Test Solution includes the following suites/scripts:
- VoWi-Fi Handset Range Test Script – Assesses handset voice quality using the Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) and E-Model based MOS scores as a function of distance from the Access Point
- Client Range Performance Test Suite – Analyzes the throughput and automatic rate adaptation of a device as a function of its distance from the Access Point (AP)
- Rate Sensitivity Performance Test Script – At each fixed data rate, this script measures the throughput of the device as a function of range from the Access Point to produce a rate adaptation benchmark graph
- VoWi-Fi Handset Roaming Test Script – Measures call integrity (dropped calls) and roam time by creating an accurate emulation of a roaming setting through precise control of the motion between the handset and two different Wi-Fi Access Points
- Client Roaming Performance Test Suite – Measures roam time for fail-over or smooth transition roam by creating an accurate emulation of a roaming setting through precise control of the motion between the handset and two different Wi-Fi Access Points
- VoWi-Fi Handset Hand-in/Hand-out Performance Test Script – Measures number of calls dropped and voice performance during handover between Wi-Fi and Cellular networks in varying network conditions
- Battery Life Performance Test Suite – This test places the device under test into a set mode or series of mode sequences and measures the time for the battery to run to exhaustion. The key metrics of this test would be standby time and talk time
The FMC Performance Test Solution runs on Azimuth’s award-winning W-Series test platform, which provides breadth and flexibility of test particularly for functional testing requirements. Testing with multipath fading is accomplished by running the automated scripts using Azimuth’s award-winning ACE™ 400NB Channel Emulator. Channel emulation recreates real world conditions of hundreds of physical scenarios in a lab on a benchtop.
All tests are managed by Azimuth's DIRECTOR™ Test Executive software, and results can be easily shared using Azimuth's STUDIO™ Test Data Management software.
